Excerpt:

In a flash, he jumped up from the floor and leapt at her. She yelped in surprise as he tackled her onto the bed.

“I’m just taking them off to sleep, you idiot,” she said laughing as he covered her face and neck in kisses.

“Mmmm.” He inhaled deeply, relishing her sweet scent. “You should know better than to bare your legs in front of me. You’ll never be left innocent when you do that.”

Chuckling, she looked up into his eyes ran a finger across his forehead, down his cheek then traced his lips. “You need to sleep.”

“I’ll sleep when I’m dead.” He moved downward and lifted her shirt with his teeth then kissed her belly. “I only have a lifetime to corrupt you.”

“Corrupt me?” She giggled and squirmed as he nipped her soft skin. “You make me sound like some kind of blessed virgin.”

He breathed against her belly, inhaling her scent, letting it fill his lungs and his memory. When he exhaled, it must’ve tickled her because she wriggled and tried to push him off.

“Stay still,” he ordered. When she did, he dragged his gaze up and down her body. Why was she still wearing clothes? The urge to be naked, feel her skin against his, was strong.

“God, you’re hot,” he mumbled, staring at her breasts.

Frowning, she covered them with her arms.

He tsked. “None of that.” Girls were so self-conscious of their bodies. He’d never understand it. It was their natural god-given curves, soft skin, and girly scent that men loved. Every imperfection – stretch mark, mole, wrinkle – just added to the humanness, gave women character. The guys he knew didn’t want a boring Barbie doll.

Emerson was real, and beautiful, and her tiny body felt perfect under his. He leaned down and kissed her. She wrapped her arms around his neck and held on, clasping her hands together like she never wanted to let go.

Xpresso Presents- Sybil Bartel's No Apologies Book Blitz & Giveaway!

Today I'm hosting Sybil Bartel's No Apologies Book Blitz & Giveaway  presented by Xpresso Book Tours. Don't forget to fill out the rafflecopter form for your chance to win!

Interview with Graham Allen
“Hi! So excited, I’m here today with Graham Allen, the bass player for the band you all are waiting patiently for to go on, so I’ll be quick! Say Hi, Graham.” OMG, he’s so hot in person!

“Hey.”

“Yep, you heard it, that sexy-awesome voice. Not that we don’t love Myles’ voice, but we looove when you sing as well. Will there be more songs you do lead locals on?”

“Possibly.”

“Okay, you heard it here first! So, tell me Graham, what’s your favorite song right now?”

“Humming Bird by Alex Clare.”

“Awww, that’s so sweet! I love that song. Does it remind you of someone?”

“Yes.”

“Care to elaborate?”

“No.”

Okay, he’s a little intimidating. I smile but he doesn’t smile back. “So, tell us something we don’t know about you.”

“I hate interviews.”

I laugh nervously. “I think I could’ve guessed that. I heard you’re a car fanatic. If you could drive any car, what would it be?”

“A Smart car,” he deadpans.

I blink. “Really?”

“No.”

I burst out laughing. “Good one. But seriously, what car would be your ideal ride?”

“The one I drive.”

“Which is?”

“71 ‘Cuda 440 6-pack.”

“You have a six pack?” I had to ask! He’s so muscular.

He crosses his arms and stares at me.

“Um, sorry. Okay, so what color is your car?”

“Black.”

Sexy. “What’s it like working with Myles?” That’s the lead singer and guitarist for all you newbies out there.

“Humbling.”

“Wow, that’s heavy.” Inspiration strikes. “What would Myles say it’s like working with you?”

“Irritating.” A ghost of a smile touches the corner of his mouth.

I think I might faint. He’s that hot. If, you know, you go for that whole tattooed, rocker, bad boy, thing—just saying. I smile because it’s impossible not to. “I’ll have to ask him about that.” With a surge of confidence, I wink.

“You do that.” The smile, lazy, practiced, kicks up a notch and now I know I’m going to faint.

“Oh, that’s just not fair.”

His only answer is to hold the half smile of amusement and incline his head once like he knows exactly the effect he has on women.

“Okay, one more question, because I know you all are about to go on. Who’s been your single greatest influence, musically, or otherwise?” I hold my breath, because for some reason, I think he’s about to surprise the crap out of me.

“That’s a personal question.”

“It is.” I don’t blink.

He maintains eye contact.

I wait.

“I don’t answer personal questions. I protect the people who are close to me.”

Wow. So sweet. “I think I just fell in love.”

This time, the smile hits both sides of his face. “You’re too late, sweetheart.” Then he strides out of the room like he owns the place.

Never apologize

Hard-edged rocker Graham Allen has it all. He’s flush with cash from playing bass in a band by night and restoring classic cars by day. And there are plenty of women willing to share his bed for a night, complication-free. Perfect, because if there’s anything he learned from his past, it was to never get attached—to anything. So when bartender Carly Sullivan flashes her innocent smile, Graham isn’t prepared for what happens next.

Never fall in love

Two rules, that’s all Graham has—never apologize and never fall in love. He knows Carly is everything he should avoid. Cheerful and sweet, she has “relationship” written all over her. But Graham can’t stay away from her probing questions and concerned blue eyes.

When Graham discovers Carly is hiding a crushing secret, he’s prepared to risk it all. Until in one single moment, everything changes and Graham’s past threatens to collide with his future. His life is crumbling down around him, and soon no apology in the world can save him.

He should’ve known to walk away.

“Look at me, Carly.” I waited till she glanced up. She was so pretty, innocent and pretty, “No misunderstandings.”

“Misunderstandings?” Her voice was just above a whisper.

I didn’t blink. “I’m not boyfriend material.”

“I got that,” she whispered.

“Good.” I felt like an ass. No, scratch that, I was an ass, a total classless prick. It was my excuse for saying what I said next. “Wanna get naked?”

Xpresso Presents-Elizabeth Briggs' More Than Music Book Blitz & Giveaway!

Hello and welcome to For Whom The Books Toll. Today I'm hosting Elizabeth Briggs' More Than Music Book Blitz & Giveaway presented by Xpresso Book Tours. Don't forget to fill out the rafflecopter form for your chance to win!!!

Where did you get the idea for More Than Music?
I went to high school for a short time with Adam Levine and Maroon 5, back when they were called Kara’s Flowers. They played at our school dances and I sat behind them in class and was completely in love with them. Of course, they had no idea I existed! Many years later I saw Adam Levine on The Voice, and had the idea of a geeky girl joining an up-and-coming rock band at her school and going on a show like The Voice, and the book grew from that.

What kind of research did you do for More Than Music?
Most of the research I did was on the music in the book, because I really wanted to get that right. I play the guitar but I’m not great at it because I don’t have time to practice regularly. Still, I tried to learn many of the songs that Maddie performs so I could describe the way it feels when you’re actually playing them. I studied a lot of guitar tutorials, live performances by the original bands, and covers by other bands. I also watched documentaries on what it’s like to be in a band, especially in high stress situations. And of course, I watched many episodes of The Voice!

How did you pick the songs in More Than Music?
I tried to pick songs that are well-known because I wanted anyone who is a fan of rock music to recognize most of them by name (especially since I couldn’t include lyrics due to copyright issues). I also chose songs that reflect what the characters are experiencing in the book, so that each song is like background music for what Maddie and Jared are going through.

The show in More Than Music is obviously based on The Voice, but were any of the characters based on particular celebrities?
None of the characters were based on any particular celebrity, but many characters were loosely inspired by them. The most obvious one is Jared, who was named after Jared Leto, the singer of Thirty Seconds To Mars. Both Jareds are flirty, talented, and hard-working, but also pretty down-to-earth – and both have brothers in their bands, too. And the mentors on the show were inspired by lots of different musicians all rolled into one. For example, Dan was loosely based on Kurt Cobain, Eddie Vedder, and Chris Cornell, but also had a little Adam Levine and Blake Shelton in him, too.

What’s next in the Chasing the Dream series?
First up is Kyle’s prequel novella, MORE THAN EXES, set at the Battle of the Bands that leads to the gig at the beginning of MORE THAN MUSIC. Next will be Hector’s novella, set a week after MORE THAN MUSIC at Comic-Con. After that, I’ll be writing books about Maddie’s best friends Julie and Carla, but you’ll have to wait a little longer for info on those, sorry!

Music major Maddie Taylor seems to have her life all figured out. She’s just finished her junior year of college, has a summer internship lined up with the LA Philharmonic, and plans to go to grad school to write movie scores. Only her roommates know she practices guitar every night and secretly dreams of a louder life. But geeky girls like her don’t get to be rock stars.

Tattooed singer Jared Cross has a new girl every week, but when he catches Maddie playing one of his songs, she attracts his attention in an unexpected way. His band needs a fourth member for The Sound, a reality TV show competition—and he wants her. Though Maddie refuses to be another notch on Jared’s bedpost, she agrees to risk everything for the chance to be a rock star.

Once on the show, Maddie discovers there’s more to Jared behind his flirty smile, and with each performance their attraction becomes impossible to ignore. When the show pressures Jared to flaunt his player image, they’re forced to keep their relationship secret, but Maddie can’t help but want something real.

As the competition heats up, Jared will do whatever it takes for his band to win, and Maddie must decide if following her dream is worth losing her heart.

Excerpt:

Jared slid his arm into mine, and every nerve in my body woke up. “Come on, I’ll take you back to your room. I need to walk off some of this energy before bed anyway.”

“You don’t need to do this,” I said as we moved to the elevator together. “I can get back by myself.”

“I’m not going anywhere until I make sure you get to your room safely. I can’t have my guitarist injuring herself again.” He winked and hit the elevator button while I leaned against him, taking comfort in his strength. His breath ruffled my hair as he quietly added, “Besides, I’m worried about you.”

The elevator door opened, and we stumbled in. “Really, Jared, I’m fine. It’s just a twisted ankle, not that big a deal—”

The door shut and his lips were on mine, cutting me off mid-sentence. His kiss was tentative and searching, a question he wanted me to answer, but I was so surprised I just stood there while my brain caught up to what was happening.

He pulled away and ran a hand through his dark hair. “Sorry. I’ve wanted to do that forever, and when I saw you fall…”

My mouth opened but no sound came out. I swallowed and tried again. “You’ve wanted to do that forever?”

“I know it’s a bad idea. We have to stay single while we’re on the show, and the guys would kill me if they found out, and you’re into that Sean guy anyway…” His voice trailed off, and he looked away.

I’d never seen Jared be anything but cool and confident, and it sent a thrill through me, knowing I’d done that to him. The elevator didn’t move, waiting for us to hit a button, but suddenly I didn’t want to go back to my room anymore. I grabbed the collar of Jared’s jacket and pulled him down to my mouth, kissing him hard, showing him that he was the one I wanted.

We broke apart long enough for me to whisper, “It is a bad idea, but I don’t care.”

“Good. Because I can’t resist you any longer.” And then our mouths met again.

We kissed like we were drowning and our only hope of living was each other. He devoured my mouth with his tongue and lips while I tangled my fingers into his thick hair, drawing him closer. Knowing we shouldn’t be doing this only gave our passion a desperate edge, a recklessness that had us gasping and clawing at each other, like we had to cram everything into this one brief moment we were alone. His hands slid down to cup my butt and lift me to his height, my back slamming against the side of the elevator, my skirt riding up to my hips. While he pinned me to the wall and teased me with his mouth, I smoothed my hands across his rough jaw, down his neck, along his broad shoulders. After weeks of fighting my desire for Jared, I needed to touch every inch of him, with my fingers, with my lips, with my entire body.

The elevator started moving, though neither of us had pushed a button. It said, “Lobby,” and reality came crashing back, like a bucket of water had been tossed on us. We broke apart to opposite corners, breathing heavily. I yanked my skirt down just as the door opened.
