Excerpt:
“So.” Kylie waited while Dan dropped onto the extra-long couch then sat on his lap and turned to face Clint. “Dan said you were traveling the country and happened to stop in Whistling Creek.”

“That’s right. He was kind enough to invite me to lunch, and it seems we hit it off.” To his total shocked surprise.

“No definite destination in mind?” she asked.

“Uh-uh.” He paused to take a long swallow of beer. “Wherever the bike takes me.”

“I’ll bet you’re enjoying it. Doesn’t he look like it, honey?” She glanced at Dan, who was stroking her bare shoulder and arm.

“Sure does.” He brushed her hair aside to trail kisses down her slender neck and bit gently at the place where it joined her shoulder. Clint saw a little tremor skate over the woman’s skin. “But I got a feeling he might have a better time here with us. At least for a little while.”

She shifted her gaze to Clint again. “I’m assuming Dan explained our situation to you?”

“He did. And I sure can understand it. Some things are difficult for people to accept.”

“In case you think we’re nuts, putting it out there like that,” Kylie told him, “Dan’s very good at reading people. He’s had to be, over the years, as we try to find a third for our, let’s say, social activities. We made a few mistakes early on, so we’ve learned to be extra careful.”

“And to trust our instincts,” Dan added. “I got a very good feeling about you from the moment we shook hands.”

Clint took another swallow of beer, letting the chilled liquid slide down his throat and hopefully cool his body that seemed to be heating up again very quickly.

“I’d just as soon let the two of you take the lead. But I’m not shy about asking if something pops into my head.”

“I don’t know if Dan mentioned it, but I do have a secret wish.” Kylie looked at Dan, who nodded. “We would love to find someone to move in with us permanently. Of course, that would be asking an awful lot.”

“Yeah?” Clint tried not to show his surprise. He’d been in a lot of one-night ménages. Sometimes even two-night encounters. But a permanent one? Would that ever interest him? He gave the other man a questioning look. “And you’d be okay sharing your wife on a regular basis?”

Dan drained the last of his beer and set the empty on the little table beside the couch. “Hell, yes. I mean, I know there would be a lot of logistics and specifics to work out, but if we could find someone on our wavelength, someone we both wanted to include, that would be the ideal.”

“But that’s just a dream, you know?” Kylie leaned into her husband. “Today, let’s enjoy each other. I’m more than ready”

“Sounds good to me.” Yeah, he was more than damn ready, too.

~~Author Wednesdays-Desiree Holt~~

© Astine | Dreamstime Stock Photos & Stock Free Images

It's Author Wednesday at For Whom The Books Toll. Desiree Holt is my guest today and she's giving a little insight to working with other authors on boxed sets.  Thank you for being here today Desiree.

So you’ve been invited to be in a boxed set
A group of authors has reached out to you and said, “Hey! We’d like you to be in a boxed set with us. We’ll sell it for a couple of months for 99 cents, then each author can put their story up separately for $1.99 or $2.99. Wanna play?”

Your first thought is, ohmigod!! They want me! They really want me! The next thought is, holy you-kn0w-what! How do all these authors plan to work together seamlessly, plan a theme, decide on graphics, get the whole thing done without virtually tearing each other’s hair out? How can it be done and how can we all cooperate?

Easy peasey. The first thing you do is take a deep breath and realize that it will take a spirit of cooperation on everyone’s part. Is there a theme already established? If so, good. You know what to build your story around. If not, toss your ideas around and hope others like it but also be open-minded and willing to look at the possibilities that others suggest. The final theme may not be your first choice but if it’s one you can get excited about and write a good story around, you’ve taken step one.

Next comes suggestions for a cover. Again, realize you are part of a group and the graphics have to express the theme of the set not just your particular story. When you are ready to release your story as a single title, you will be able to design your own cover but for now be open to all possibilities as long as they are appealing and stick to the theme.

Next on the agenda is story length. Do you only write full length books? If so, and you can’t write short, this may not be the stage for you. Stories in box sets usually run the wide gamut from 15K-40K. That’s a pretty wide latitude. Some people can tell a complete story in as little as 15K, others need as much as 40K. But if you are up for the challenge, be aware of the parameters and write the story. As my son always says, the story is as long as the story is. You start at the beginning and when you get to the end, you’re done. The variation in length is usually appealing to readers so if you can comfortably within those length requirements then this is the place for you.

And by the way, don’t worry if your story ends up being 15K. Don’t worry that it won’t sell. The very first erotic story I sold was 15K and it’s still selling after seven years.

Be prepared to pull your weight in promoting the set. Make a list of your social platforms and the blogs you exchange with and other areas where you promote. Sometimes the group will decide to do a little paid advertising which requires a small amount from each author.

But here’s the most important thing. Deadlines. Yes, deadlines. To get a boxed set formatted and ready to upload there have to be hard and fast deadlines for each author. Schedule it in your calendar so you aren’t writing at two in the morning the day before it’s due. Nothing disrupts a working relationship faster than people missing deadline so be very, very conscious of what they are.

Okay, all the important stuff is taken care of. Now the formatter uploads the boxed set and ta da! Release day is here. Enjoy, enjoy, enjoy.

I have two boxed sets about to release” Danger Zone: Tales of Military Passion and Five Alarm Alphas, about firefighters. Here’s one place to preorder them:

~~Author Wednesdays-Desiree Holt is here!!!!~~

© Astine | Dreamstime Stock Photos & Stock Free Images

Hello every one. I'm so excited for this Author Wednesday guest, Desiree Holt!!!  Desiree has a new book, Finding Julia!

People say that writing is a solitary occupation and to a great extent it is. I mean, no one can do the writing for you, nor would you want them to. But it also takes a lot of research, especially for me. I am known as Miss Picky because I go to great lengths to get things right.

When I was writing Finding Julia, there were some specific scenes in the story that I needed details on. For example, there’s a cabin in the woods in Massachusetts. I had to know if there was still open land outside Boston, where it was, how much open space, all that good stuff. I managed to find a real estate agent who was willing to take time out of her busy day to answer my questions, although I think she was secretly hoping I was actually looking for property to buy.

There is also a scene at a restaurant called Harry’s House. Now this is of course a fictional place but it’s based on a real restaurant, Little Harry’s, a French colonial structure in Detroit with a lot of ambience. I lived in that city fir twenty-five years and Little Harry’s was a place where Detroit’s gentrified elite as well as their Mafia elite frequently dined. Media were strictly prohibited so it was a place where people could be assured of privacy, especially with the restaurant divided into small rooms.

Unfortunately it no longer exists. Singer Anita Baker bought it and planned to turn it into a recording studio. She ran into so much resistance she built an IHop instead. Kind of like when my late husband and I went to Texarkana to see some of the historic landmarks of his ancestors and at one spot found a Taco Bell.

Oh, well.

I don't know about you, but I think this cover is super yummy!!!!

Excerpt:

“Our executive vice president is tied up in a meeting right now,” Howard whispered as the executive staff filed in. “He’s the one who says yea or nay. He’ll join us as soon as he can.”

Great. Would he expect her to do it all over again for him?

She sighed and began her presentation again.

It was well into the afternoon and she was pulling out copies of the proposed budget to distribute when the door to the boardroom opened quietly, and Julia’s stomach dropped to the floor. She felt as if an electric surge slammed into her, plucking at every one of her nerve endings.

The man who silently took a seat at the end of the table wasn’t necessarily handsome, but he was one hundred percent male. Liquid brown eyes were framed by the thickest lashes she had ever seen on a man. She noticed the strong jaw and the lines of character etched on an incredibly masculine face. Straight brown hair, a hint of silver reflecting in the lights, was worn just a little long, giving him a slightly rakehell look.

The classic dark business suit barely concealed the power he radiated. More than that, he exuded an aura of self, of authority, of comfort in his own skin few men were able to attain. She could think of only three words to describe him. Dark. Edgy. Dangerous. In her entire thirty years, no man had ever affected her the way this man did. Certainly not Charles. She clamped down on her reaction, forbidding herself to let her thoughts wander into forbidden territory. As she’d learned, her judgment where men were concerned left a great deal to be desired.

“Let me interrupt a moment.” Manning jumped to his feet. “Julia, meet Lucas Buchanan, our executive vice president. He’s been in another meeting until now.”

“I’m pleased you could join us, Mr. Buchanan.” Julia pasted on her professional smile and hoped her voice sounded firmer to the others than it did to her.

Lucas Buchanan nodded at her. “Luke, please. Sorry to be late. Please don’t let me interrupt.”

She struggled to pick up the threads of what she’d been saying, her brain suddenly addled, and her hands unsteady. It took every ounce of personal discipline to keep focused on her presentation.

Author Wednesdays-Desiree Holt Interview & Giveaway!!!

© Astine | Dreamstime Stock Photos & Stock Free Images

Hello and welcome to Author Wednesdays! Can everyone give a big cowboy Yee Haw for today's author, Desiree Holt!!! YEE HAW!!!  Desiree is giving away  a signed copy of Ride A Cowboy, a two-book anthology combining Back in the Saddle and Eight Second Ride in US/Canada or an ebook internationally. I will gift them the book directly from Amazon so they can select Authorgraph and get a digital signature.

Can you tell us a little about yourself?
I live in the idle of the Texas Hill Country surrounded by yummy cowboys which is why most of my heroes are…cowboys! I have an endless supply of ideas and resources. When I’m not writing I love to read and I am an obsessed football nut. During the season don’t call me on the weekend! LOL! I love writing. It was always my dream and now I’m living it.

Share 5 fun facts about yourself?
  1. I was the first female sports reporter on the newspaper at The University of Michigan
  2. I have a weakness for pizza and Chines food-but so do my hips
  3. I have a weakness for really good romances with endings that make you cry happy tears
  4. I drive a pickup truck and I love it
  5. I am licensed to carry concealed and have the neatest little gun I can stick in my purse.
What was your ideal career when you were a child?
Well, at ten I told everyone I was going to Hollywood to be a big movie star. Then I wanted to be an airline stewardess (back then they weren’t called flight attendants). After that I wanted to work on a newspaper but by the time I hit my twenties I knew that some day I wanted to write books.

Tell us about a typical writing day for you.
Up at 7 am to feed my three cats (they are very demanding) and the deer that are part of our community. Answer email and do any posting on social media. One hour on the treadmill. Shower. Then 5-6 hours of writing, which often includes going back and layering and other times editing. And research. By 5 pm I’m usually done for the day, but I keep a notebook with me at night because thoughts come to me even as I watch television.

On average, how long does it take you to write a book?
I write anywhere from 3500-6500 words a day, depending on how the story is unfolding and if edits etc. interfere. So anywhere from 10 days to 6 weeks, depending on the length. Sometimes a really complex book will take me two months. And I often work on more than one at a time.

How long does it take to write sex scenes?
Sometimes a whole day, sometimes half a day. But then I go back and layer in emotion etc. But I really try to put myself in the place of my characters.

Where do you find writing inspiration?
Oh, everywhere. Every person and place I see. I always play the What If game. And sometimes in the oddest places. Out of Control was inspired by a Letter to the Editor in our local newspaper. The idea for Collision Course and for The Phoenix Agency series came to me whole I was practicing on the gun range. My brain collects places and people and mixes them into stories. Someone once said “Give her three words and she’ll write a book.” I think I could do that.

Do you have a favorite writing snack?
Chocolate nuts but they and my hips have a big fight, so now it’s baby carrots, cherub tomatoes and green peppers with hummus.

Do you have any writing rituals?
Not really. I find as I’ve written more and more books I have to start with an outline and bullet points, and keep track of my characters, but that’s about it. Oh, wait. I usually have a favorite song that inspires each book so when I head into town or wherever I play it over and over on my iPod.

Where ís your favorite place to write?
My home, in the great room. Big picture window on the left, French doors on the right so I get plenty of sun in a room designed for comfort. Comfortable chair and two television sets. (Oh, I write the best when there are reruns of Walker Texas Ranger on TV.

What is the best way to get over writer's block?
For me it means leaving the work in progress and going to another one while the first one rattles around in my brain. Then I’ll have an aha! Moment and get back to the first one. Sometimes, if that doesn’t work, I take a break and read and my brain rests and then kick starts.

What scene for you was the hardest to write and how did you overcome that obstacle?
Too many to name here. Sometimes it’s a sex scene because I don’t think I’ve got enough emotion in it. Other times it’s the mechanics of the scene so I get out my dolls and work it out. And sometimes the scene is so emotional I cry while I’m writing. The only way to get past it is to keep writing through it, then go back and fix it.

What ís your biggest writing achievement? Why?
I guess hitting Amazon’s best seller lists so many times, because that seems to be where the bulk of my readers are.

How do you celebrate a new book?
Sometimes lunch with my best pal and critique partner Cerise Deland. Sometimes watching TV with my cats and drinking a glass of wine.

Can you tell us about your current book, Ride A Cowboy?
This is a two-book anthology combining Back in the Saddle and Eight Second Ride. The first one is about an old love lost and revived and proves that you can go home again. Especially if the man waiting for you takes you to the hot world of kink. IN Eight Second Ride, a sexy lady sheriff shows a rodeo rider what kink and love is all about.

What made you write this story?
I wrote these stories because I live in a world of cowboys in the Texas Hill Country and let me tell you they are hot. I always begin with my characters and the hero and heroine in these stories were inspired by many people I met. And of course by the San Antonio Stock Show and Rodeo! I mean, who doesn't love a naked cowboy?

What do you think makes a good story?
Strong characters, an opening that draws you in at once and a plot that evolves from the relationship of the characters.

What ís the hardest thing about writing and how do you handle it?
Oh, lordy. I don’t know if I can pick out just one thing. It depends on the day. But if I did have to pick something I‘d say the first two or three chapters. Setting the mood is kind of like slogging through mud. But once you get through it, you love the slide!

If you could bring one of your characters to life, which one would it be and why?
Joe in Once Upon a Wedding. He was one of my early heroes and I’m still in love with him.

If you could have dinner with 5 people, who would you choose and why?
Sam Elliott because no matter how old he gets his voice really turns me on
Sylvia Day so I could ask her how she sold more than 200,000 ebooks in one week
Robert Taylor who plays Longmire on Longmire-he totally rocks
Craig Johnson who created the series and whose books are incredibly well written
Neil Diamond because I totally love his music

If you could travel in a time machine, would go back to the past or to the future?
Neither. I really love where I am.

What does your family and friends think about your writing erotic romances?
My kids totally support me and are even my best PR people. They love to brag about it but none of them read it. Mom and sex? Forget it!. My friends have eased into accepting it and a lot of them buy my books for their ereader (for the anonymity, I suspect)

How important is reader feedback, good or bad, to you?
The most important, If people love my books I want to know why so I can give them more. If they don’t like them I want to know that, too, so I can work on fixing it.

What is your greatest temptation?
Ooh! I have so many I don’t think I can pick out just one.

What is your greatest weakness:
Pizza and Chinese food!

What ís the best advice you can give to an inspiring author?
Learn everything you can. Join a writers group and a critique group. Soak up the feedback. Write every day, even if it’s only one page. And never, ever, evr give up.

How do you relax?
Reading and drinking wine or flavored tea.

What is your favorite all time book?
It’s not even a romance. Trustee From the Toolroom, by Nevil Shute. It’s an adult fairy tale that reinforces my belief in the innate goodness of people.

How about a couple of fun questions:

Pepsi or Coke?
Coke (my late husband would come back and haunt me otherwise

Chips or pretzels?
Chips, definintely

Chocolate or vanilla?
Vanilla (but with a yummy sauce)

Mountains or beach?
Mountains. Love the fresh air.

Favorite color?
Red in all it’s shades

Favorite ice cream?
Coffee

Casual or dress up?
Casual. Always.

Early bird or night owl?
Early bird, although I can stay up late if I’m out and having fun.

Cook outs or restaurant dinners?
Cookouts.

She didn’t shoot the sheriff…but she’d sure like to strip him down.

Taking over as publisher of The Hill Country Herald was supposed to help Jinx Malone put her personal and professional disasters in New York behind her. Instead, she’s barely settled at her desk when news of a murder hits the police scanner.

Who knew Rowan County could be this exciting? And who knew her first story would bring her into head-butting, hormone-pumping contact with something that’s an even bigger pain in her ass than a cheating ex—a know-it-all cop?

Sheriff Dillon Cross thought retreating to Rowan Country would help him get over a bad case of burnout. But only a few weeks into his job, he’s standing over a dead body in a ditch, arguing with his least favorite thing: a sexy, in-your-face reporter.

Before they’re through buzzing around each other like angry hornets, the last thing either expected happens. They’re in bed, burning up the sheets. But is it a new beginning, or just a bad rerun of past mistakes?

Warning: This book contains a nekkid cowboy and enough graphic sex to singe your eye balls. Cool compresses recommended.

Sometimes out of the frying pan and into the fire is the best way to burn.

Amy Stark has it all together—except for chronic bad taste in men. She’s firmly in hands-off-all-men mode when a flat tire forces her to accept the help of exactly the type of man she’s sworn off. Arrogant, cocky and condescending.

When she runs into him again later that day and then finds out her brother has invited him for dinner, the fire between them has a sizzle of a different kind.

At eighteen, Buck Montgomery left home to make his mark on the bull-riding circuit. He may have had wild success in rodeo but his personal life is in the dust, and while he’s ready to start a new life he’s wary to expose his heart. Buck knows he should tell Amy the truth, but every time he opens his mouth, hers is right there with kisses like molten lava.

When his past resurfaces at the worst possible time, Buck can only wonder if Amy will love the man he has become…or if the man he was will chase her away.

Naked is nice. But Stark naked is definitely more fun…
Reenie Davenport learned the hard way that men are cheating, promotion-thieving poison. A month after making a fresh start in Texas, she looks forward to taking a breather at her old college friend Amy’s family ranch. Instead, she’s left breathless when Amy’s very drunk, very sexy, very naked brother lands at her feet. Even as she hardens her heart, a small part of her wishes that quickly tossed towel would shift…just a little.

When Matt Stark shows up at Reenie’s door to apologize, he can barely squeeze a word past her emotional barriers. Suddenly nothing else matters except convincing her not all men are clones of her ex. Sweet-talking her into lunch is only the beginning.
One touch, and boom! Much to Reenie’s dismay, lunch ends in a hot, flaming dessert—in her bed. Shutting Matt out isn’t as easy as simply blowing out a match. Especially since this cowboy is equally determined to unlock her heart.

Product Warnings: Contains graphic and explicit, hot nekkid cowboy lovin’.

She has her own issues and isn’t looking for anything permanent. Can Alex convince her that he’s enough to satisfy her for the rest of her life?

Blurb:      Erector Set Series #1

Who can resist a pint-sized female with luscious curves stranded in a parking lot? Not Josh McMann. It’s his pleasure to save Ness Bowen, especially given the instant sensual chemistry that explodes between them. When she wrecks her car on the way to meet him for dinner, he saves her once again. And dinner at home takes on a whole new meaning as the sexual pull becomes too strong for either to ignore. The more they see each other, the more intense and erotic the sex becomes.

But Ness sees Josh as a player, and she’s been dumped by men like him who were always looking for the next conquest. Josh has his own trust issues, having been burned by women interested only in his money and power.

When a breakfast date goes awry and Ness thinks she’s been dumped once again, it takes a lot of fancy maneuvering from Josh to make amends.

Hello and welcome to For Whom The Books Toll's very first Author Wednesday!!!  I'd like to welcome the Wild, Wicked Weekend Ladies. Thank you for being my first guests. Take it away ladies.

   WILD WICKED WEEKEND
        Feb 20th - 23rd, 2014
        Registration is open!
         Website: http://wildwickedweekend.com

          Hosted by:
Brenna Zinn, Cerise Deland, Dalton Diaz, Desiree Holt, Regina Carlysle, Samantha Cayto

And Your Male Cover Model Hosts:
                                                               Cole Reilly and David Nieves!

I asked each lady the same question, Which feature of the Wild Wicked Weekend excites you the most?
And here are their answers:

Regina Carlysle:
What I am most looking forward to is seeing Texas again, partying with buds, and hanging out with our sexy and amazing hosts David Nieves and Cole Reilly!

Samantha Cayto:
Going to the dungeon is going to be my favorite part (although the strip club is a close second). As a Domme, I really love how accepting everyone is about the lifestyle.

Cerise Deland:
I love love love that it is all women only. So many women can discreetly, comfortably enjoy a discussion or demonstration about sex without feeling guilt or shame. Yes, that still happens! The WILD WICKED WEEKEND is the perfect, safe place to come enjoy yourself, learn and be happy with your sexuality.
There is no other conference like it in the world!

Dalton Diaz:
The Games! OMG, the games! Oh, the things we have planned...I can't give away the details, but key words are audience participation & sexy male cover model hosts. Oh yeah!!!!

Desiree Holt:
The BDSM demonstration because I write about it so much and I'm always learning.

Brenna Zinn:
I'm really looking forward to the strip club excursion on the first night. The entire club will be packed with attendees having a ball with a bunch of good looking, half naked men. What's not to love about that?

Next, I asked each talented lady their very own individual question:

Regina Carlysle:
Do you ladies have anything special brewing?
Knowing us, I'm sure we will. We all love each other so much and respect each other as authors. Right now we're in the middle of planning our conference which is TONS of work, so we're laying low and working on individual writing projects. But who knows? I know after the Wild Wicked Weekend in February, we'll start really missing each other! LOL. Who knows what we might get up to. I'll write with any of them any time. Love this group of women.

Samantha Cayto:
How did you ladies decide who would be part of the group?
The group grew out of friendships. I've become friends with so many wonderful authors. I love being with all of them and writing with all of them.

Cerise DeLand:
Who got to pick the male cover models to attend your weekend?
Samantha Cayto approached a few male models, assured us of their availability and we chose from among them. She did a fab job, don't you think???

Dalton Diaz:
Do you write books as a group?
Not yet...

Desiree Holt:
How did you ladies come up with the idea to have your own weekend get together?
The idea actually grew out of another conference I chaired at Then Menger Hotel. It really lends itself well for something like this. And what kind of conference would erotic romance authors put on? Why, a very sexy one, of course, for our wonderful readers.

Brenna Zinn:
What's the best part about being in this group of ladies?
I truly enjoy the personalities of the group. We cover a wide range of likes, abilities, skills and talents. In many ways, I think we balance each other. But aside from the wonderful friendship, these ladies are extremely supportive. If one of us has a new release out, the others will help spread the word. The networking is invaluable.
