Author Wednesdays-Zenobia Renquist Character Interview & Giveaway!!!

© Astine | Dreamstime Stock Photos & Stock Free Images

It's Author Wednesday time again, and today my guest is Zenobia Renquist. Welcome to For Whom The Books Toll, Zenobia. With Zenobia today are Jeliyah and Teaghan from CREAM.

Character Interview: CREAM (On the Hunt) by Zenobia Renquist

Interviewer: Joining us today are Jeliyah and Teaghan from CREAM by Zenobia Renquist—an Erotic Vampire Romance from Ellora’s Cave that is part of the On the Hunt multi-author series. It’s great of you to come out.

Jeliyah: Thanks for having us.

Teaghan: ‘Sup.

Interviewer: Jeliyah, the story starts with you. You’re a necromancer. That means you can control the dead, right?

Jeliyah: That’s the traditional meaning, yes. In the case of CREAM, it means I am an individual born with the ability to control magic that allows me to combat vampires.

Interviewer: And vampires are dead in this world?

Jeliyah: Not dead, per se.

Teaghan: Sitting right here. I walk and talk, so I’m guessing I’m not dead.

Interviewer: /chuckles/ No you most certainly aren’t, but you’re not my definition of alive either, are you, Teaghan?

Teaghan: Magic and blood keep me going. Necromancers can negate that magic. Pain in the ass but it pays the bills.

Interviewer: For those in the audience, Teaghan is an enforcer.

Teaghan: Glorified title for a merc.

Jeliyah: He means bounty hunter. We work together to bring in rogue vampires who break the law.

Teaghan: She means we kill mofos who’re too stupid to live. The only things we bring in are their heads.

Interviewer: Sounds messy.

Teaghan: /shrugs/ I’ve got plastic bags.

Interviewer: Does it bother you working with a necromancer? Aren’t necromancers and vampires mortal enemies because of the way they hunted you prior to vampires coming out?

Teaghan: The vampire and human governments want to show they can play nice so we work together to show solidarity or some crap like that. The days of hunting vampires are over, in the US anyway. You won’t catch my ass traveling abroad any time soon. As for working with Jeliyah, no issues there. All she has to do is wear a tight shirt, or no shirt at all, and I’m happy.

Jeliyah: /rolls eyes and sighs/

Interviewer: Which leads to my next question… You two got intimate, very intimate, in CREAM. Any regrets?

Teaghan: Yeah. It should have happened sooner, like five seconds after we met. It would have saved us a lot of crap later.

Jeliyah: As much as I hate to admit it, he’s right. If we had gone to bed instead of that hunt, we wouldn’t have landed on the hunted list ourselves. Though that led to our present situation so I’m not too upset about it.

Interviewer: If I was you, I wouldn’t be upset about it either. Do you think Ms. Renquist will revisit your world again? I would love to catch up with you two in the future to see how you’re doing.

Teaghan: You gotta ask her that.

Interviewer: It so happens that she’s here right now and I will. Please welcome, Zenobia Renquist.

Zenobia: Hi hi. This is just real quick. I’ve got books to write and characters to torture.

Interviewer: Real quick then. Will we be seeing more of Jeliyah and Teaghan’s world? Them too?

Zenobia: I have two other books planned for this world. It’s just a matter of getting them written and off to my editor, which is easier said than done. I have a lot of titles on my to-be-written list but those two stories are coming. How soon I can’t say for sure. Jeliyah and Teaghan will cameo in at least one. I love revisiting my characters.

Interviewer: Can you give us a hint what the books will be about?

Zenobia: One will deal with Teaghan’s progeny Mekhail and his love life. The other will deal with the mess Teaghan and Jeliyah left back in their hometown.

Teaghan: Not my mess. That’s got nothing to do with me.

Zenobia & Jeliyah: Now.

Interviewer: /chuckles/ Sounds interesting. I look forward to reading both.

Zenobia: Me too. I write by the seat of my pants so I have no clue what’s going to happen until after I write it. I just know the gist and the characters. That’s it. The rest comes to me as I type. Speaking of typing. I’ve got to get back to it. Thanks for having me.

Interviewer: Thank you for coming out.

Teaghan: We’re out too. I’ve gotta debrief Jeliyah before out next mission.

Interviewer: I’ll bet. Thank you both for being here today. It was great talking to you. For those in the audience, you can read all about Teaghan and Jeliyah’s adventure in CREAM by Zenobia Renquist. Leave a question for Jeliyah, Teaghan or Zenobia in the comments section for a chance to win a PDF copy of CREAM. Learn more about the title below.

Blurb:
She's entered a world where blood, sex, and cash rules everything around her.

What do a four hundred-year-old vampire and a mid-level necromancer have in common? Money. Jeliyah needs it to pay off the people who trained her and Teaghan enjoys killing to get it. Together they hunt rogue vampires—assuming Teaghan can focus on something other than getting her in bed and Jeliyah doesn’t put a bullet in him first.

The uneasy partnership promises to be lucrative until Teaghan and Jeliyah get on the wrong side of a feud. Jeliyah is forced to use forbidden magic and finds herself bound to a man she should hate—but whom she can’t stop fantasizing about.

Every second they stay alive fuels a growing desire Jeliyah is unwilling to deny. Is it the magic? The danger? The only way to get the answers she craves is to outrun the enemy or kill them. She knows Teaghan’s preference but it's Jeliyah who must put their mind-blowing sex aside and make the choice that will decide both their fates.

Inside Scoop: An interracial romance between a wannabe-gangtsa vampire and a career-focused magic user who go from being the hunters to the hunted in an exciting new urban fantasy world.

Author Wednesdays-Samantha Cayto Interview!!

© Astine | Dreamstime Stock Photos & Stock Free Images

Happy New Year to everyone!  And it's Wednesday again and you all know what that means, Author Wednesday time. Samantha Cayto stopped by today and agreed to answer some questions. Enjoy!

Can you tell us a little about yourself?
I'm a New England woman through and through, a wife a mother and a lawyer, in addition to being an author. I'm also a Domme.

Please share 5 fun facts about yourself.
 (a) I can make puff pastry from scratch. (b) I'm a strip club a-holic. I just can't get enough of hot men taking their clothes off! (c) I love the ocean. (d) My favorite drink is bourbon, Maker's Mark in particular. (e) My favorite color is purple.

What was your ideal career when you were a child?
Being a writer, actually, but I put it aside for a long time because I thought it was unrealistic as a goal.

Tell us about a typical writing day for you.
I don't have a typical day of writing. I do it when I can and I usually write at the dining room table so that I can talk to my husband and kids while I do it. I can split my concentration pretty well like that.

On average, how long does it take you to write a book?
If I have enough time each day to devote to it, I can write a novel length in a month or two. I write very fast.

How long does it take to write sex scenes?
Those are the hardest scenese to write, but I always write them in one sitting and it's usually about an hour.

Where do you find writing inspiration?
Anything and everything each day can give me inspiration. People ask me how I come up with my stories but the truth is I have so many bouncing around in my brain, I don't have time for them all.

Do you have a favorite writing snack?
I try not to not to each while I write because I end up overeating, but something small like jelly beans is what I prefer.

Do you have any writing rituals?
I used to play one game of Freecell before beginning, but I don't do that anymore. I just jump in.

Where’s your favorite place to write?
The dining room table. It's in the center of my house so I can keep track of what's going on.

What’s the best way to get over writer’s block?
I honestly don't know because I've never had it.

What scene for you was the hardest to write and how did you overcome that obstacle?
The hardest scene is always the last one of any story. I just keep trying things out until I find one that I don't hate. I never like my endings, though.

What’s your biggest writing achievement? Why?
Writing Illegal Moves with Dalton Diaz because it was my first to get published. It was like a damn bursting. I've published everything I've written since.

How do you celebrate a new book?
With ice cream!

Can you tell us about your current book, Too Hot to Touch?
It's a sequel to Locked and Loaded using the secondary character, Sean as the hero.

What made you write ‘this’ story?
Sean suffers from PTSD. A lot of readers were moved by that plot line so I knew I had to tell his story.

What do you think makes a good story?
Dialogue is always my favorite part to write and read in others' books.

What’s the hardest thing about writing and how do you handle it?
Getting my brain to slow down enough to write the words. It's a struggle each time.

If you could bring one of your characters to life, which one would it be and why?
Probably Aidan Jones from Jonesin' for Action. He's an amputee and I'd like to see how he's doing.

If you could have dinner with 5 people, who would you choose and why?
1. Orlando Bloom because he's gorgeous and I'd like to just stare at him all night.
2. Dan Savage because I think he's funny and he's done so much to support LGBT kids (my older daughter is gay), plus he can bring his totally hot husband Terry Miller too (does that count as a third person?)
3. Hillary Rodham Clinton because, love her or hate her, she's a powerful woman who's had an amazing life and she's not done yet.
4. Bill Maher because sometimes I agree with him and sometimes I don't and I like a good debate.
5. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand because I admire her tireless work on behalf of military women.

If you could travel in a time machine, would go back to the past or to the future?
The future. I know what's happened already and women didn't do so well. I want to see how things turn out for us humans.

What does your family and friends think about your writing erotic romances?
The people who count the most in my life - husband, kids, brothers - they support me and love my success. The others are embarrassed so too bad for them.

How important is reader feedback, good or bad, to you?
It's very important. You can't please everyone, but you have to at least try!

What is your greatest temptation?
Naked men and beating them into submission. What can I say, it's what turns me on.

What is your greatest weakness?
Food. It would be fine if I could eat whatever I wanted and not gain weight or risk health problems. Alas, that's not true.

What’s the best advice you can give to an inspiring author?
Don't give up and if you are having trouble getting published, do self-pubbed. I've read lots of self-published books on Amazon that I thought were great.

How do you relax?
I love a good massage.

What is your favorite all time book?
A Prayer for Owen Meany by John Irving. I loved that book so much I won't read it again for fear of not loving it as much.

Ellora's Cave     Paperback

Author Bio:

I wish I had something exciting to put here – something like I’m a dominatrix who spends her days having gorgeous men lick chocolate off her body.
The truth is I’m a corporate lawyer, happily married for twenty years with three kids and four dogs. No white picket fence, but we do live in the burbs west of Boston. While my husband and I still do occasionally lick chocolate off each other, our more typical evening involves lying in bed once the kids are in theirs and reading separate books. Mine of course are romance. I started reading them as a defense against all those boring legal documents. Once I started, I couldn’t stop.
I love all types of romance, although my favorite stories are the ones with a kick-ass heroine. I devour anything by Nora Roberts (including J.D. Robb), Suzanne Brockmann and Jessica Andersen. Of course the heros in their stories kick ass, too. There’s nothing sexier to me than an Alpha male, except an Alpha male that’s willing to not only accept an Alpha female as an equal, but also willing to let her take charge from time to time.
I’ve loved erotica and especially male-on-male stories since my teen years. I stole a thin book by someone named Anonymous from my older brother’s drawer and found the best parts had two guys getting it on. What an eye-opener those scenes were! I thought I was the only straight woman perusing the gay male fiction in the bookstore all these years. Imagine my surprise when Ellora’s Cave gave a talk at an RWA conference one year asking for the very thing that’s always turned me on. It was a natural fit.
Besides my family, writing and reading, my loves include the sight, smell and sounds of the ocean (I’m a New England girl through and through), chocolate (naturally), prime rib (bloody) and good bourbon on the rocks. Whenever I’m out of town for a conference or other business, I also look for a male strip club or revue. I know – so cheesy. But the guys are hot and very attentive if you tip well enough. My husband is fine with this, by the way. He figures he gets the benefit of all that hotness when I get home. And he does, too!
Writing has been my passion since I was a child. Thank you so much for helping me realize my dream of not only writing, but writing something that other people enjoy!

Author Wednesdays-Her Royal Hotness Sabrina York Guest Blog Post

© Astine | Dreamstime Stock Photos & Stock Free Images

Happy Wednesday everyone!  Today I have Her Royal Hotness, Sabrina York on For Whom The Books Toll. A big warm welcome to you Sabrina. It's time to turn For Whom The Books Toll over, so take it away Sabrina.

Sabrina York’s Making Over Maris…Because Nerds Need Love Too!

Jack Maris made his first appearance in one of my books in my debut novel, Adam’s Obsession. In that offering, he was the surly nerd, bumbling his way through the story, hitting on the heroine and annoying the reader. His second appearance was in the second book of the series, Tristan’s Temptation.

And he hadn’t changed much.

You should have heard the squawk from my critique partners when I announced I was going to write Jack’s
story. “But he’s a NERD!” they wailed.

And he was. An über-nerd.

And yes, it was a challenge to take this clueless, campy anti-hero and make him into a loveable hunk.

But I’ve always felt there is a hero in each man, and a heroine in each woman, if we but dig deeply enough. It took me a while to get to know Jack a little better. To look past the puerile t-shirts and the sophomoric pick up lines.

What I found there, astounded me.

For one thing, Jack has secrets. Lots of them. Deep and dark. Many did not even appear on the page—for example, exactly why he ran away from home at fifteen. The reason is inferred, but it was far too raw, far too scarring to put into words.

Jack was, however, willing to admit to his secret, long-term crush on Sara Grant. At least to me. He’s been in love with her since high school, ever since she stood up to a bully and saved him from Billy Brandt’s wedgie. But Sara barely knows he exists. At best, she has him locked in the friendzone.

In a flash of brilliance, inspired by a chick flick he would never admit to watching, Jack decides to ask Sara to help him become attractive to women. It’s a ploy. A ploy to spend more time with her and hopefully help her see him as a man.

The experiment works better than either Jack or Sara could have dreamed. Jack is delighted…but Sara is annoyed. Because now, suddenly, other women are looking at Jack.

She suddenly realizes she wants him for herself. And when she learns Jack craves a taste of FemDom, she is delighted to play along.

Their exploration takes them on a journey of lust and love—and a happy ending they both never dreamed could be theirs.

This was a delightful book to write. I fell in love with Jack and Sara, and I hope you feel the same way. The third and final book in the Wired Series, Making Over Maris provides some laughs, some tears and visits from some old friends—all wrapped up in a steamy, sexy story of love and redemption and transformation.

After returning home from Ellora’s Cave Romanticon, a crazy-fun conference for authors and readers, I was delighted to discover that one of the Cavemen I’d met there (and if I am being totally truthfully, posed with in our own cover photo), DeAngelo, the Alpha Caveman, was the model for the cover of this book. For a closer look at this steamy hunk—and who wouldn’t want one?—check out his facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/deangelolabare.

And read on for more of Making Over Maris!

WARNING: This book is a Nerd-to-Hot-Hunk sizzling erotic romance. You will never look the same way at a geek in glasses again.

 Blurb:                   Wired, Book Three
When über-nerd Jack asks Sara to make him more attractive to women, she can’t say no—even though it’s an impossible task. He’s shaggy and doughy and hopelessly inappropriate. He has no style or emotional intelligence but he’s a good person. And a great friend. What Sara never expects? Beneath all that fur and geekiness is a steamy hunk just waiting to emerge.

Jack takes Sara’s regimen very seriously, working out and losing weight until he feels like a new man. He even complies with her command to shave his beard—because Jack didn’t ask Sara to make him over so he would be attractive to other women. He only wants to be attractive to her. They go on a series of fake dates, each hotter and more sinful than the last. It’s not long before Sara discovers Jack’s secret desire to be dominated and what began as an arrangement becomes something amazing—something that could be real.

“So… Have you thought about it?” Jack could have kicked himself. He hadn’t intended to burst into her office and blurt it out like that. He’d meant to be suave and slick.

He should have known better.

He’d never been suave and slick.

No. He’d hovered in the vicinity of Sara’s office—after sending Kenny on a meaningless errand—and barged through the door and pounced upon her as soon as Kat left.

“Sit, Jack.”

He plopped into the chair and, because he didn’t know what to do with his hands, laced his fingers.

Sara studied him, dissecting him in that way she had, with her head tipped to the side, wrinkling her button nose. She was so cute when she wrinkled her nose. He forced himself not to wriggle. His cock didn’t listen. Something about her eyes, her lips, her scent, always stirred him.

He shouldn’t have this kind of reaction to her. In the office. Everywhere. But he couldn’t help it. He just did. Always.

When she looked at him like that, when she spoke to him in that clear, commanding voice, it was even worse.

Or better, depending on one’s perspective.

She cleared her throat. “Okay. I’ve thought about it.”

His pulse jerked. “And…?”

She dropped her attention to her blotter and meticulously rearranged several deformed paper clips. His heart pounded a painful tattoo as he waited for her response. “And…” She met his eyes—God, she was gorgeous. “If I do this, we need to have an understanding.”

Relief, or something like it, trickled through him. An understanding was awfully close to an agreement. A promise. “Okay.”

Sara sucked in a breath. “First of all, we need to agree this is an impossible task.”

“Not impossible,” he grumbled. Surely not impossible.

“Okay. Improbable then. My chances of success are…dismal.”

Dismal? Jack’s belly dropped. He fiddled with the wiry hairs on the back of his neck. He didn’t like the way this was going. It was depressing that she thought so poorly of him. “Am I that hideous?”

Her eyes widened. A flush rose on her cheeks. “Oh my God, Jack. No. I didn’t mean it that way.”

“It sounded that way.”

“Jack…” She rubbed her hands over her face. “Okay. How about this? We have a long way to go. Can we agree on that?”

“Sure.” He knew he was pouting. But he had a damn good excuse. She’d pretty much come out and said making him attractive to women—to her in particular—was a hopeless cause.

“My worry is this. I can teach you all the right things to say and coach you on how to act around women, prescribe a diet and exercise plan and even give you a makeover. But if you don’t listen to me—if you don’t follow the plan—I fail.”

“I’ll listen. I’ll follow the plan.” Hell. He’d follow her anywhere she wanted to lead. If she only knew…

Something fierce stirred in her eyes. “It’s not going to be easy, Jack. I’m gonna work you.” Why he shivered at the tone in her voice, he had no clue. Or maybe he did. “I want you to agree to honor our contract—even if you drop the ball.”

“Of course.” He always kept his promises.

“You swear?”

He put a hand over his heart. “I swear.”

She sat back. The fire in her eyes flickered and sputtered out. “Okay. So next week I’m going back East to spend some time with my mother—”

“How long will you be gone?” Damn. He hated it when she was gone.

Pain flashed across her features; her voice dropped. “She’s…not doing well.”

His heart squeezed and he wanted to say something comforting but couldn’t find any words. Sara’s mother had been in and out of the hospital for a year. They were very close. Each time her mother had a relapse, Sara suffered.

Jack had never had a mother so he couldn’t relate but he imagined having one and losing her would be even harder than never having one at all.

“In the meantime, I’ll put together a plan for you.”

“A…plan?” His mind spun. How on earth was this going to work if she wasn’t even here?

“Yes. And you have to follow it.”

“I will.”

She put her hands flat on the desk and skewered him with a glower. “Religiously, Jack.”

“Okay.” He tried to not wriggle in his seat. He loved it when she got all…adamant. “So you’ll do it?”

“Yes,” she sighed. “I’ll do it.”

Relief cascaded through him. Relief and hope. It was a tiny sprig of hope, but hope was hope. “So when do we begin?”

She gazed at him. Some strange emotion he couldn’t interpret flashed over her features. “Now.”

Oh. God. Excitement and satisfaction and panic surged through him. “Now?”

“Yes. I need to do an assessment. You know. To figure out exactly where we are.”

He swallowed. “An assessment?”

“Of your game.”

“Okay.” He liked games. He scooted to the edge of his seat.

“Let’s pretend I’m a woman—”

“You are a woman.”

She wrinkled her nose. “Be serious, Jack.”

“I am being serious.” He was.

“Let’s pretend I’m a woman you see at a bar. And you’re interested.”

Oh. He was.

“What’s the first thing you do?”

Okay. He could wrap his brain around this. He shifted to the side and pulled out his wallet. Found his trusty cheat sheet and unfolded it and spread it flat on the desk.

“What the hell is that?” She gaped at the rumpled, well-worn paper.
It’s my flowchart.” Duh.

Sara blinked. “You have a flowchart for picking up women.” Not a question.

“Naturally.” Didn’t everyone?

“Let me see that.” Before he could stop her she snatched the paper away. Scanned it. “Oh God.”

He knew what she was seeing. He’d studied this flowchart a hundred times. Still, when she read it aloud, he winced.

“Picking Up Chicks.” She grimaced. “Seriously, Jack? That’s what you named it?”

“Yes.” What else would he name it?

“‘Step One. Assess the situation’. Okay. That works. ‘Does she seem cranky?’ Cranky? Seriously, Jack? Cranky?”

He shrugged. “It’s a critical variable.” It was. It was exceedingly difficult to pick up a cranky woman. “Statistically speaking—”

But Sara ignored him. “‘If Yes: Charm her from her bad mood. If No: Proceed with caution.’” Sara sighed and glanced up at him. “Proceed with caution? We’re not wild animals, Jack.”

“You kind of are.” This he muttered. She didn’t hear. Or maybe she did. Maybe she was ignoring him again. She did that.

With a derisive snort, she crumpled up his precious template for seduction and tossed it in the trash.

With a strangled “eep” he dove in after it, dug it out, refolded it and tucked it back into his wallet. It had never worked but it was all he had. He needed it.

She glared at him. And then for some reason she softened. “Women are not an empirical science, Jack.” She gestured to his wallet. “We’re not all alike. There is no ‘one size fits all’ approach to winning someone’s heart.”

Yeah. He got that. “But you need to have a standard operating procedure—”

“No, ya don’t.” She blew out a breath. He loved the way it made her bangs flutter up. “Don’t you see? This kind of thing comes off as cheesy. Planned. Practiced.”

“And that’s…bad?” How could planning and practice be bad?

“Women don’t want to feel like they’re an insect being dissected or analyzed. They don’t want to be one option in a sea of possibilities. They want to be special. They want a guy who responds to them on an instinctual level. A guy who is so interested, he can’t help but be charming. Not a guy who has to be reminded to be seductive—by an SOP.”

He shook his head. This was all so…alien. “I don’t get it.”

She buried her face in her hands. “No. You don’t. That’s the point. Oh Jack, I’m going to need a couple days to think about this.”

His pulse stuttered. “But you already promised…”

“No. I’ll do it. I did promise to do it. I just need to think about how to do it.”

He relaxed. Okay. Okay. Okay. It would be okay. “Thank you, Sara.”

“Yeah.” Her cell phone buzzed and she picked it up to check the screen. Her lips tightened and she set it back down. “No prob.”

Damn. Why did she seem so dispirited? He’d seen the tears on her cheeks when he interrupted her meeting with Kat. He’d hated her tears. Hated even more that he didn’t have any right to wipe them away.

“Sara.” He waited until she met his gaze. “Thank you.”

This meant everything to him. More than she could ever know.

“Sure, Jack. Give me a couple days to think about this.”

“Sure.”

She stared at him for a minute and then said in a very small voice, “You can go now.”

Right. He could go. But he didn’t want to. He didn’t want to go. He wanted to fold her in his arms and hold her and make whatever was making her sad disappear.

He didn’t have that right either.

And he never would.

But for the next few months, he’d have her attention.

And that would be worth a thousand trips to Paris.
