Question: What is it that Mikah Malloy desires, but within his soul, believes he doesn’t deserve?

Hi, everyone, Jessica Lee here, author of the Ariel Estates series and its latest

installment, Breaking the Ice. First of all, thanks so much for allowing me to guest post today and introduce you to Gideon Haven. The initial thing that hits me about the wolf shifter, after I’d mentally dragged myself away from the green-eyed sex-on-a-stick creature’s body, was his confidence. It rolled off him in waves. Not in an arrogant way. No. He wasn’t trying to impress. His self-assuredness came as natural to him as breathing.

I didn’t need to ask the question. Because I already knew the answer. Gideon Haven was born to be an alpha.

How about we start with your childhood. What is one of your earliest memories? “Hmm… I believe that would be when my brother, Josh and I were kids, and my mother had taken us outside to play. One of the other boys who’d joined us pushed Josh down. Josh starting crying, and I remember this surge of anger taking me over, and I barreled into the other boy, slamming him onto the ground. Next thing I knew, my father was pulling me off him.” Gideon inhaled deep and shook his head. “I couldn’t have been more than four or five, but the memory is still very clear.” He chuckles. “My temper has always gotten me into trouble. Still does.” What one might call a shy grin turns up the male’s lip. But something tells me there’s nothing innocent about Gideon Haven.

Are you involved in a romance? “Not at the moment.” He shrugs. “I just got out of a long term relationship. I’m thinking it’s probably not a good time to get involved with anyone right now.”

Any reason why you’d say that? “Uhm… Let’s just say I’m looking for a fresh start.”
Okay. That was very mysterious.

Favorite indulgence? “Are we talking food, sex, or both?” He winks.

Whatever you’re willing to share. “Well, if you’re talking food that would be a dark chocolate mousse. Decadent. Delicious.
Sex? Now that info would be between me and my partner. But I can tell you perhaps some of that mousse might make an appearance before, and perhaps during our time together.”
I squirm as heat rises up my neck and into my cheeks. Clearing my throat, I continue on.

What is the one thing you want the most in the whole world? A long sigh escapes him as he appears to organize his thoughts before speaking. “To live my life not defined by what others expect I should do or who I should be. I want to see and experience more of what the world has to offer beyond the ice around me.”
Is leaving your pack a problem? Do you have an enemies or reasons why you shouldn’t do just that, explore the world?
Gideon leans forward, resting his forearms on his thighs. Technically, I’m next in line to succeed my father as alpha. Leaving the pack…” He leans back and crosses his arms. “It’s not what is expected of me. But I truly believe my twin brother will make a better alpha for my people. He’s a peacemaker. I’m a trouble maker,” Gideon rumbles and narrows his gaze on me before cracking a smile. “As for your question about an enemy or threat holding me back…” He nods. “Unfortunately, there has been an incident—a murder—that I need to help my father investigate before I can get out of here.” His gaze locks on mine. “There’s no way I would ever leave before this bastard caught, and I know my people are safe.” Gideon stands. “Now if you’ll excuse, there are some things I need to take care of.”
I’m dismissed.

And that was it for my interview with Gideon Haven. Wow. The male was intense, but at the same time, magnetic. I would have loved to learn more about him, delved deeper into what made him tick. Good news, though, you can find out more about Gideon and the Haven pack in Breaking the Ice!

The tundra isn’t the only thing that’s frozen solid.

Being the last male standing isn’t always what it’s cracked up to be. Mikah Malloy is living proof. His mother and father were both killed during their individual attempts to assassinate the pride leader of Ariel Estates, Silas Murdoch. Now after the dust has settled on his bloodstained family’s name, Mikah must face life alone among his fellow lion shifters. But Silas and his mate, Theo, have decided a vacation in Alaska is just what the doctor ordered to help Mikah come to terms with his grief and his plans for the future. The only snag with their plan is trouble always has a way of finding Mikah, no matter where he runs.

Gideon Haven, eldest son of the Haven pack's alpha, would give his soul for a way off the ice. But when a hunter is out to eradicate his pack one by one, skinning them alive for their wolf pelts, Gideon can’t just walk away.

The predators have now become the prey, but they're determined to hunt down the poacher out to slaughter Theo and Gideon's pack. As for Mikah, he’s more than ready for the job. Putting one's life on the line isn’t a hardship when you don’t care whether you live or die. The heat between Gideon and Mikah becomes nearly impossible to resist, yet Mikah is determined the tenacious wolf isn’t about to get close enough to break the ice around his heart.

Doctor Anna Foster may just get what she wants: sexy fellow researcher Jonah Granger. She's been in love with him for years, but Jonah has always been more interested in work at his family's business, Granger Pharma, than romance. Now that they've admitted their attraction, Anna may even be able to tell him what she really wants: to submit to him.

But Granger Pharma faces a hostile takeover. Sensitive data and samples are missing from Anna and Jonah's lab; it may be corporate espionage. Everyone is under suspicion and, they're even beginning to question each other. Anna must discover the truth if she's going to save both her job and her relationship with the man she dreams of serving.

My Review:
Anna is excited to share Jonah's lab during the renovations, she has a reservation or two though. Jonah is very particular about his lab, everything has to be in the right place. Shortly after the renovations start, the lab is broken into and samples and notes are missing. Security is tightened and everyone hopes that will be enough. Anna takes her work seriously, she works hard, and she is brilliant.

Jonah is a work-a-holic. He doesn't have time for relationships and he doesn't know how to make them work. Working close together, Jonah finds out Anna has longed to be with him. Jonah makes Anna's dream come true. I liked Jonah, he has a strong work ethic, is very handsome, confident, extremely smart and caring.

The sex between Jonah and Anna sizzles and Anna is afraid to tell him she's submissive. Jonah really isn't into all that, but he's willing to try a little for Anna. I was surprised that Jonah was quite inventive and eager to be what Anna wanted.

One night Tabitha calls Jonah, she's hysterical. While on their honeymoon, Marcus was in a para-sailing accident and needs to be flown home.
Anna is very surprised to learn that this is the second accident for Marcus. I had a few suspects as to who the culprit is, I will have to wait and see how good my guess is in the next book.

Her Wish, His Command is a fantastic story that continues the plot line for the Dominating BDSM Billionaires series. For some reason, I happened to read this book first. I really didn't feel like I was lost in the story. Anna and Jonah are so right for each other, they have great chemistry, a lot of sexual tension and are a joy to read about. Jonah has a little bit of trouble trying to work through problems, it's just easier for him to end the relationship. I'm glad that Anna wouldn't let him do that.
I love this book and the story moved along quite quickly. I think everyone would enjoy this book.

Tabitha Quinn's Hawaii vacation was anything but ordinary. Dominant billionaire Marcus Granger saved her life, swept her into his bed, and then left her heartbroken. Now she's back in New York, mourning the man she's sure she'll never see again.

Marcus may have left handprints on her skin, but Tabitha's left handprints on his heart: he tracks her down, and they resume the sizzling affair they began in the islands.

Tabitha belongs to Marcus body and soul in bed, but she worries she doesn't belong in his high-stakes world. They've already dodged a murder attempt, and now Marcus is fighting off a competitor's takeover. When the rival company obtains critical information, suspicion falls on Tabitha. She has to prove she's innocent--and worthy to wear Marcus's collar.

My review:
Tabitha is back at work and the one thing on her mind is, what the heck happened? She knows Marcus had a crisis and had to return home quickly, the problem is he hasn't made any effort in the two weeks since Hawaii to contact Tabitha. She just wants to get on things and forget about those nights full of steamy hot sex with Marcus and how he made her feel.
Tabitha's insecurities keep creeping back into her mind when she lets herself think of her time with Marcus.

Marcus has been swamped at his family's company, Granger Pharma with trying to stop a hostile takeover by a competitor. He hasn't forgotten about Tabitha, there just isn't time to spare. I believe that Marcus has every intention of getting back with Tabitha as soon as things calm down at his company. I'm so in love with Marcus, he's clever, inventive, mysterious, and one heck of a lover. He has all the qualities that make a man great. Marcus' character did some growing in this book.
Tabitha has convinced herself that Marcus lives the high society life and she doesn't fit in.
This is a big obstacle she has to get over to make her relationship with Marcus work. Tabitha has a lot of good qualities, she works hard, she's friendly and smart. She's also willing to try new things with Marcus.

There's a lot of sexual tension between the two throughout the book. Ms. Mallory definitely knows how to create characters with depth and dimension and seem like they are capable of walking right off the pages. The clever plots in the books are awesome and grab the reader's attention almost immediately.

There is danger and excitement galore in His Desire, Her Surrender. Marcus almost gets hit by a car, company secrets get out, and Marcus believes Tabitha has leaked some of those secrets to his sister, Monica. I totally understand Marcus' anger, however I felt he was also very stubborn when he wouldn't let Tabitha explain. I so wanted Marcus and Tabitha to be together and be happy. I thought Tabitha forgave Marcus too quick. I liked how she wanted to fight for them, I think Marcus should have have been apologetic.
Ms. Mallory has written another spell binding book that is fast paced and has the reader on the edge of their seat waiting to see what happens next. His Desire, Her Surrender will leave you breathless and wanting more.

Executive assistant Tabitha Quinn didn't come to Hawaii to be spanked. But when vacationing businessman Marcus Granger saves her from drowning, they begin an affair that moves from the beach to the bedroom and straight into an experience Tabitha's never had before: dark-haired, blue-eyed Marcus is a dominant, and spanking is just the beginning. The sex is intense, the emotion even more so, until they both must decide if this is a holiday fling or the real thing.

My review:
His Need, Her Desire by Malia Mallory is definitely one steamy read! This is a short story that is jam packed with sexual tension, two people who like to mate like bunnies, emotional ups and downs and a surprise or two thrown in just for fun.
Tabitha is looking forward to meeting up with an old friend in Hawaii, only to be disappointed when her friend has to cancel due to a family emergency. She decides to make the best of it and have some fun.
Marcus Granger is in Hawaii on a business trip with his sister Monica. When Tabitha sees Mr. Gorgeous Guy with a very attractive woman, she's certain she can't compete with her. Tabitha is excited when she learns the woman is his sister.
While Tabitha is swimming in the ocean, she's caught by a rip tide and has trouble getting back to shore. A paddle boarder happens to be close to her, and rescues her. Tabitha isn't expecting Mr. Gorgeous Guy when she goes to thank the good Samaritan. Her body is immediately on high alert when their bodies touch.
Tabitha and Marcus spend a lot of time together, they have great chemistry. Tabitha can't believe she is acting the way she is when she's with Marcus. She's usually somewhat shy and insecure. Marcus makes her feel fantastic about herself and shows her lots of things she's never dream of doing. Tabitha is a very likable woman, everyone has their own insecurities, what's nice is, she has help with overcoming them.

Marcus is all alpha male, gorgeous, strong, confident, caring and fun. He thinks there might be something special between him and Tabitha, but before they can find out, he gets a phone call, and has to fly home ASAP. There's hardly any time for goodbyes.
His Need, Her Desire kept me turning the pages right from the beginning. Ms. Mallory's characters always have that great chemistry that makes them click right from the beginning whether they know it or not. There's not a lot of back story here, it's enough though for this book. Get ready for a long cold shower after reading His Need, Her Desire. The ending has me really wanting to get reading book 2, His Desire, Her Surrender.

Tangled Up In Need—Alena Stuart
When the object of her cyber lust shows up on her doorstep on the Fourth of July, Johanna Porter is caught between panic and giddiness. What’s a Canadian girl to do?

While vacationing in Colorado, Johanna has met the man of her dreams, Alec Brody. Now that she is back home in Ontario, she must settle for a long distance romance over the internet. Even that has it's limitations.
Wanting to surprise Johanna, Alec has made the long drive to Ontario. Knowing neither one wants to move, he's hoping to work out the details later. Right now, he's willing to settle for some celebrating time making love to her.

This is a fun short story, very entertaining. I like both characters Johanna and Alec. Tangled Up In Need is well written and moves along nicely.

Fireworks—Denise Alicea
After the death of her grandfather, Sarah takes his things away. A picture will lead her to a magical night. What’s a girl from New York going to do with a man from the 1940′s?

After collecting the last of her grandfather's mementos, Sarah headed home, which was a few blocks away. She was looking at some old pictures of her grandfather from the war, when a thunderstorm kicked up. A flash of lightening, and the lights flickered, then there was a shadow in the corner of the room.

The last thing Lt. James Taylor remembered was an incoming grenade, the next moment he was in a strange living room with a beautiful woman.

Sarah's grandfather had told her, he had a surprise for her and it looks like his young soldier friend is it.

Fireworks is a very short read and has little back story. That doesn't detract from the overall imaginative plot of Denise Alicea. Even after her grandfather went to Heaven, he's still trying to fix Sarah up on a blind date.

The Ghost Whispered, “I Love You”— Ellen Margret
Anna must change the past in order to be with Jon, her long-dead husband from a previous lifetime, who was mortally wounded at Bunker Hill.

Captain Jonathan Dagwoad, a British soldier, is writing his last words in his diary. He was severely injured during the battle at Bunker Hill. He met his wife Semone, in Charleston not long after landing in America. I found this scene very moving and capable of bringing the tears.

Unable to stay away a minute longer, Anna makes her way into the attic of the house where she rents a room. As she reads the words of a dying man from his diary, she is struck by a sense that somehow she was drawn to the attic to read the diary and find his old uniform.

Jonathan appears to Anna in the attic and tells her that she is his wife Semone from two hundred years ago. Willing to do anything to be with Jon, Anna let's herself go to sleep.

The Ghost Whispered, "I Love You" is another great story full of emotions and tells of life during the Revolutionary War between a British soldier and an American woman. I really enjoyed this book, and thought it would make a fantastic story worth re-visiting sometime. I felt so sad for Jonathan, and admired that his spirit wanted to wait for his previous wife's spirit to be reincarnated.

Where There’s Smoke, There’s Fire—Mary Alice Pritchard
When Bear scents his mate, he’s on a mission to make Ginger his. Unfortunately, the town’s Fourth of July celebration is proving to be a dangerous distraction.

Ginger Hobbs is drifting through Riverfork, Montana, looking for a job. Seeing a help wanted sign in the local diner, she applies for the job.

Bear Jacobs is the Sheriff of Broadwater County, and it's his job to keep his part of Montana safe. It's a week before the 4th of July and everything is very dry since it hasn't rained for a long time. Bear smells his mate and is on the hunt to find her before she leaves the area.

I had to giggle several times at Bear and how he acted like a love-sick teenager. He was just so cute. He lives in an area where the humans know about shifters and accept them living together.

Ginger has a hard time putting down roots. She works hard at whatever job she's working at at the time. She was very accepting of Bear and what he was very quickly. Where There's Smoke, There's Fire also has a little bit of danger involved in the story line and helped to make the book exciting.

I’ll Be Seeing You— Rachel E. Moniz
World War Two had changed everything except for Betty and Frank’s love for each other and their determination to be married before Frank leaves for Europe.

Two different couples during the war handle love two very different ways. Alice's boyfriend Jimmy is already fighting over in Europe. Betty's boyfriend, Frank Russo hasn't left yet, although his time is coming up. Betty and Frank want to get married before he ships out. Betty's parents want her to wait until he returns.

Frank gets injured during the fighting and he wonders if his injuries will change Betty's love for him.

I haven't read many war stories, so this one was a bit new to me. I found myself wanting Frank and Betty to do what they wanted before he leaves. I also cried when Frank was injured. I'll Be Seeing You has so many emotions in such a short story. I was very happy how the story ended.

Lover’s Meeting— Kate Hofman
Hoping against hope, Andrew returns to Ocean Breeze, Florida after being gone five years, looking for the one woman he should have never let get away.

Cheryl Devereaux's son, Jared is looking forward to all the fun of the 4th of July. The parade, the fireworks and a picnic.

Andrew is taking a chance he'll find Cheryl in the huge crowd. He can't believe it when he is able to find her. Five years ago, he left Cheryl for a career opportunity.
Now, he wants to get back with Cheryl. When a little boy runs up, Andrew seems taken aback that she would have gotten married while he was gone. Then he looks at the little boy and knows Jared is his son.

Lover's Meeting is a typical Kate Hofman book, you know it's going to be a great read with excellent characters, lots of emotions, some twists and turns and obstacles to overcome. I really enjoy how the characters grow and are able to resolve the problems to stay together.

The Fourth of July anthology is a great book that contains several nice stories that are just the right length when you want to read something short and sweet and not a lot involved. I enjoy reading smaller stories at times when I don't have a lot of time to sit down and read. I would recommend this book to anyone.

Author Wednesdays-Lisa Carlisle!!!!

© Astine | Dreamstime Stock Photos & Stock Free Images

Welcome to For Whom The Books Toll. Today it's Author Wednesday and my guest Author is Lisa Carlisle.
Lisa is sharing the top 10 reasons Tracy falls for Danton in her book, Gargoyle's Embrace. So without further ado, here's Lisa.

Lisa Carlisle’s Top Ten for Gargoyle’s Embrace

Hi, I’m Lisa Carlisle and I write a hot paranormal erotic series for Ellora’s Cave called Underground Encounters. Thanks for having me here at For Whom the Book Tolls. I’m here to give you top ten reasons the heroine falls for the hero in Gargoyle’s Embrace. First, here’s a blurb for some background.

Gargoyle’s Embrace

Fifth in the Underground Encounters series.

Tracy isn’t sure why she’s drawn to a particular gargoyle statue in the Goth club where she works. After the stone takes human form to protect her from her abusive ex, she brings the handsome, naked male to her apartment. It’s impossible to ignore the seductive appeal of a man sculpted like a Viking warrior.
Danton has only hours in human form to spend with the woman he has hungered for. He’s convinced what’s between them is more than hot sex, but he needs to convince Tracy of that before he turns back to stone.

A Romantica® paranormal erotic romance from Ellora’s Cave

Top Ten Reasons Tracy Falls for Danton
1. Danton looks like a bronzed Viking warrior.

2. His existence as a gargoyle with its otherworldly magic.

3. His body is carved with rock hard muscles.

4. She discovers other parts of him are rock hard, too. ;)

5. His physical strength.

6. His patience.

7. The way he’s cared for Tracy from behind stone for eons.

8. He longs for her and makes her feel like the most beautiful woman alive.

9. He will do anything to protect her.

10. He will also let her fight her own battles.

If you’re interested in reading more, here’s an excerpt. Hope you enjoy it!
Lisa

Excerpt:
Tracy brushed her fingers over the smooth stone of the gargoyle perched at the end of the bar of the Vamps nightclub.

“I’m stuck with the late shift tonight,” she said. “But at least I took in some good money.”

She stood over the crouched gargoyle and ran her hand over the smooth area between its two horns, down the back of its head and over its hunched back where its two wings connected. “Thanks for always listening,” she said, aware of how foolish she sounded speaking to a statue. If anyone saw her, they’d think she was stone-cold crazy. She bent to kiss its smooth, chiseled stone cheek in gratitude.

Over the last few months, Tracy had begun talking to the stone gargoyle as if it were a companion whenever she had a few moments alone in the bar. Why she gravitated toward this one gargoyle while several others were perched around the club, she didn’t know. She found something compelling about it, drawing her in, and she often confided her secrets to it.

Tracy rested her hand on the gargoyle’s shoulder while she scanned the club. Bottles and cups were scattered in every dark corner and under the other perched gargoyles. The scent of sweat and spilled beer still permeated the club.

“Trace.”

Was it one of the guys out back? The guys she worked with were bringing out the trash and the bottles for recycling. The other bartenders had already settled up and left for the night. They rotated who could leave first and who had to stay to make sure they were stocked for the next night.

No, they knew better than to call her Trace.

“It’s Tracy,” she said, turning to face the intruder.
And stared into the face of her ex.

“What are you doing here, Brian?” The muscles in her body tensed as she gauged the distance between her and the pepper spray behind the bar should she need it.

She thought she felt a tiny movement under her hand.
No, she had to be losing her mind. As if stone could move.
She kept her hand on the stone like a security blanket, almost gripping it now that Brian had appeared.

“I came to see what you were doing tonight. Thought maybe we could hang out.” The way he slurred the words indicated he’d already had one too many, a bad sign.

“Definitely not. The restraining order should make that clear.”

“Babe, I was in a rough place and I took it out on you. Let’s put the past behind us and try again.”

The cold stone felt warmer beneath her hand. How strange. Was she so heated from the tension of Brian arriving that her palm could warm cool stone?

“No, Brian. I’ve given you too many chances and each time it ended worse than the time before.”

“Babe.” He approached her. “I would never hurt you again.”

“Don’t come any closer.” She moved away from the gargoyle to get to her purse behind the bar.
“Trace, you’re soooo dramatic.” He moved behind the bar.

Tracy was distracted by the gargoyle statue behind him. It was changing color, from gray stone to what appeared to be—flesh.

“Come on, we were good together. Don’t you miss the sex?”

The stone wings of the gargoyle statue unfurled into enormous sleek, black, feathered ones. The gargoyle reshaped itself, rising from a crouched position to stand on two legs to a full height well over six feet.
And its head. The horns sank back into the stone while light-blond hair sprouted to take their place, growing past its broad shoulders. Within a few seconds, the grotesque stone creature she found lovable had transformed into a breathtaking male with flawless bronze skin, long blond hair and the magnificent physique of a Viking warrior. Who stood before them stark naked.

“Holy shit!” she exclaimed, eyes widening.

“I know, babe. The sex was awesome.”

She fumbled for her purse, searching for the damn spray. She wasn’t even sure who she was going to direct it at now with two threats facing her.

It was too late. Brian had grabbed her wrists and tried to kiss her.
Get off me!”

She attempted to knee him in his testicles, but he deflected the blow by turning his body to the side.

Enormous black wings surrounded Brian and a second later he was lifted off the ground. Brian exclaimed, “What the―” which was cut off as he was thrown over the bar onto the empty dance floor.

He scrambled to his feet on unsteady legs. The gargoyle stepped over to him in a few massive strides. While Tracy’s gaze paused on his sculpted buttocks, the gargoyle raised one of his sinewy legs and kicked Brian in the gut. Brian groaned and clutched his stomach. The gargoyle lifted a foot over Brian’s head.

Tracy screamed while Brian shielded his face with his forearm to brace against the gargoyle stomping on his head.
