Man
by day, Centaur by night, Rhycious is a remedy maker who needs his
own healing.
He's the royal physician, famous for his cures. War and post traumatic stress disorder has broken his spirit, preventing him from finding true happiness. Then a direct order from the queen to investigate an uprising forces him out of his secluded cabin at the edge of the forest.
Patience is an optimistic, good-natured Wood Nymph who works as a mediator to ensure harmony within the Nymph sector.
Environmental pollution in the aquifer stream that feeds the taproot tree of her heart is slowly killing her. Resigned to the fact she will not live long, she sets out to discover the mysterious disappearance of her sister. Experience has taught her to deny herself the love of a male, but the gruff Centaur is different. He doesn't push his expectations on her, only his healing nature.
When Rhycious loses his grip on reality, he believes his inability to control his disorder will drive Patience away. Nevertheless, desire flares, and Patience draws him close. Kidnapping and betrayal turn their mythic joint venture into a deadly bout.
Will their love endure when survival hinges on trusting each other?
My
review:
Wow!!!
I'm still reeling after finishing Remedy Maker by Sheri Fredricks.
The world building is excellent and the characters are well suited to
live there. The characters are wonderfully written with real life
problems. The story is fast paced and drew me in right from page 1.
Ms. Fredricks has made sure to include a lot of detail that only adds
to the allure of the story. A lot of emotions, depth and dimension
shape all of the characters into people. There were times I almost
forgot I was reading about creatures that don't actually exist.
Rhycious
believes he's too damaged to be happy with a family. The long war
with the Wood Nymphs has taken it's toll. Rhy is also a Remedy Maker
and is very good at what he does. When his friend Samuel, brings him
an unconscious woman, Rhy is stumped as to what's causing it. When he
examines her and finds out she's a Wood Nymph, he's immediately
angry, and his PTSD kicks in.
Rhycious
is super yummy, sexy, smart and an excellent remedy maker. I really
liked him, he also has some wit with his dealings with other
characters of the book. One of my all time favorite mythological
beings is a Centaur. I've always just liked the idea of them.
Patience
is searching for her missing sister, Serenity. Patience is cute as a
button, dresses snappily, and has a special way of talking that
confuses the heck out of Rhy. She knows she's ill, unfortunately just
not what is causing it, so she's never let herself believe she has a
future with a family. Patience's favorite name for Rhy is Stud Muffin
and I laughed every time I read it. She just has a bubbly
personality.
Ms.
Fredricks infuses a lot of adventure, danger, plot twists and turns
and a few surprises that are just delicious. There is also a plot to
get Queen Savella, ruler of the Centaurs off the throne which only
adds to the complexity of the story line.
I
totally loved this book and recommend it to anyone who likes
adventure, romance, lots of characters, surprises, and a little
mystery in their books. You'll love it!!
