Character Interview: Favored Dragon’s Release by D. Renee Bagby

Me: Welcome back and thanks for joining us. Today we have a very special guest. So special in fact that we have to conduct this interview outside because he can’t fit into the studio. Please welcome Shurik and Yolette from Favored Dragon’s Release by D. Renee Bagby—a Fantasy Non-Shifter Dragon Romance from Bookstrand Publishing that is the first book in the Hidden by Dragons Series.

Yolette: Thank you for inviting us here. Also thank you for holding the interview outdoors so Shurik could attend. I didn’t want to do this on my own.

Me: Not at all. It’s not everyday I get to talk to a real, live dragon. Thank you both for coming. So let’s get to it. I have to ask—Shurik, did you ever think you would find a human woman willing to marry you?

Shurik: No. I thought Shadowed Father had set me an impossible task for which he expected me to fail. Dragons and humans have warred with each other for centuries. No human would want to marry a dragon.

Me: No human from your world, no. But Yolette isn’t from your world and thus doesn’t have the same prejudices.

Yolette: I was happy to meet him after I got over being surprised that he existed. Though Earth and Abarrane are two variations of the same planet, my world doesn’t have dragons outside of fiction.

Me: That you know of. But that’s a topic for another interview. Yolette, you were plucked from your world and tossed onto another. Were you scared? Excited?

Yolette: Both. Actually at first I thought I was still on Earth and my friends were playing a prank on me. Once I met Shurik, I realized I wasn’t on my world and that scared me because I had no clue how I would get home. Shurik helped a lot with giving me a place to stay and helping me get settled.

Shurik: I suspected, once I realized she was different from other humans I had met in the past, that she might be the one to break the curse of my people. I had no intention of casting her out.

Me: You had no intention of falling in love with her either, but that happened.

Shurik: Yes. I do not regret that.

Me: Do you think Father god Yggzyta knew something like that would happen and that’s the reason why he made your punishment what it was?

Shurik: I have long wondered if the outcome was what he’d wanted from the beginning and he used my transgression to see it happen. I do regret some of my actions but I would change none of them because Yolette is at my side.

Yolette: We had a rough start but it all turned out well in the end.

Me: It’s not over though, right? The Hidden By Dragons Series has two more books left. Will they be about dragons we’ve met already in Favored Dragon’s Release?

Yolette: No they will not. The second story, from what I’ve heard, is about a dragon who will be a shifter. He didn’t appear in the first book at all. As for the third book, we’re not allowed to talk about that one.

Me: Ohhh interesting. Consider me intrigued. A shifter dragon will be what most readers expect when reading about a dragon who is the size of a two-story house. I was really curious how you two were going to…get together, shall we say. It wasn’t until I read the book that it all made sense. So will you and Shurik be in the other two books.

Shurik: We have cameo appearances in both. Our relationship is what makes the next two books possible and Renee likes revisiting former characters so readers can see how they are faring.

Me: That is perfect. I love checking in on past characters. Is there a release date and title for the second story?

Yolette: Not yet. Renee has a title but hasn’t finished writing the second story yet, so it doesn’t have a release date.

Me: Well I, for one, hope she hurries up. I want to learn more about Abarrane and its inhabitants. I have just one more question and then we’ll wrap up this interview. Shurik, would it be possible to go for ride?

 Shurik: If you wish.

Me: Hot damn. Well, folks, I’m about to go ride a dragon. I know you’re jealous. To learn more about Yolette and Shurik, catch them in Favored Dragon’s Release (Hidden By Dragons 1) by D. Renee Bagby. Leave a question in the comments for Yolette or Shurik and you’re entered to win a PDF copy of Favored Dragon’s Release. Contest ends Friday 16  May 2014. Wow, that was one fantastic dragon ride!!! Thank you D. Renee for being here today and also to Yolette and Shurik.

He wants her for his bride to end the dragons’ curse but his love for her is ruining his plans.

In the aftermath of a senseless war that claimed many lives, the gods have punished the dragons for causing the conflict. The next generation will not hatch until Prince Shurik finds a human female willing to put aside generations of animosity to become his bride.

Yolette goes to sleep on the side of a mountain, the odd woman out on a couples’ camping trip, and awakes in a field outside the home of a dragon. Transported to an unknown world very different from her own, she must depend on Shurik for shelter and guidance.

Shurik doesn’t anticipate his growing feelings for Yolette, making the task of proposing that much harder. Danger looms from those who want the punishment ended and from those who want it to continue until the last dragon is gone. Shurik must decide whether he will save his people or his love and pray to the gods his choice is the right one.

I'd like to give a special thanks to D. Renee for taking time out of her busy schedule to be here today and also thank Yolette and Shurik. I loved the ride.

Please stop back next Wednesday when Syneca Featherstone will be here. I hope you will join us.

  1. I love paranormal romance and will look forward to reading this. I also would like to ask Shurik if he has any unmated friends.

    1. Unfortunately, thanks to Shurik's part in the curse he doesn't have many friends. But there are several unmated dragons lurking about. :)
