Lady Vesta Chambers is just a little more than upset with her father. He was supposed to be finding them a house in London for her coming out, and instead he falls in love and gets married. Vesta always thought that her father would eventually marry her godmother, Diana.
Diana kind of had hopes of the same, now that marrying Ned is out of the question, Diana volunteers to take Vesta to London herself. Ned agrees to the two women being on their own only if they promise to contact Viscount Ludovic DeVere if they are in need of anything. Diana isn't fond of Mr. DeVere, but agrees to Ned's terms never intending to calling on him.
Once in London, the two women are enjoying themselves immensely. Vesta has always done as she pleases and insists on taking her early morning rides while in town. It is during one of these rides that she sees the man of her dreams. The Seventeenth Light Dragoons are riding by and Vesta is immediately taken by the man leading them.
Captain Hewett DeVere, is the younger brother and heir to Viscount DeVere, the Devil DeVere. He has returned home from the war in America, scarred and more than ready to settle down and start a family. Hew is quickly drawn to Diana and doesn't seem to notice Vesta. Used to getting what she wants, Vesta schemes to make Hew notice she is a woman and not a little girl.

I really enjoyed reading The Virgin Huntress by Victoria Vane. The book is fantastic, the characters quickly find their way into your heart. They are very well written and have so much depth and dimension. The world building is great, I thought I was back in Regency England. Ms. Vane pens another great story full of sensual romance, a lot of wit and fun, and a few shenanigans. Vesta is a spoiled brat that is so used to getting what she wants that she's actually shocked that Hew isn't interested in her for a wife. I will say that Vesta is very determined and very creative in her quest of getting Hew to love her. It's easy not to like her because she is so spoiled, but as the story progressed, I found myself liking her more and more. I enjoyed seeing Vesta grow into a sensuous woman. Hewett is always a gentleman first and foremost, and I liked him immediately. I had to chuckle out loud during some of Vesta's wilder plans and how they played out. If you like stories that are entertaining, has great detail with some humor, The Devil DeVere series is just right. I recommend reading this series in order. I'll be reading The Devil You Know soon.
