CBP-Jenna Jaxon's Betrayal Virtual Book Tour & Giveaway!!

Welcome to my stop on CBP Jenna Jaxon's Betrayal Virtual Tour. Jenna stopped by and answered a few questions. Here's our interview:

Are you a plotter or a pantser, or a hybrid?
Hands down I’m a plotter. I have to write out a detailed outline before I can begin to write chapter 1. I make out a plotline of incidents, complications, crisis, black moment; I make character sketches with physical features, age, build; I make lists of houses/castles, servants, even sketch out what the house and grounds look like. Once all this is in place, I can sit down and start to write.

What item, or items, is absolutely necessary to your writing mojo?
Hot tea and my Sheldon Cooper doll. I just got Sheldon for Christmas, but he’s been watching over my keyboard ever since. Silence is also a good thing if I want to write anything worth reading.

Do you have any rituals for writing or special locations that you prefer to inhabit when you’re writing?
My favorite and most productive writing space is a cabin in the Adirondacks with no running water or electricity. Friends own this cabin—it’s actually their guest cabin—and I have hours and hours of uninterrupted writing time when I visit. I can usually write between 4-5,000 words on a good day. I take the computer and charge it up at the motel overnight. Next year I’m buying a PowerStation PSX!

Do you listen to music when you write? If so, what type(s) do you lean towards?
No, oddly enough, when I was writing academic papers I had to have music on so I could tune it out. Now, if I want to write creative prose, I have to have silence so I can dive into the work. When I’m in the car thinking about a story, I usually listen to top 40. Maroon 5 is my favorite group (Adam Levine is going to be a hero in one of my stories, so help me!), but I like Lady Gaga and P!nk as well.

What are you currently working on, or what’s on the horizon?
After Betrayal, I’m finishing up the serial novel, Time Enough to Love, with the third novella, Beleaguered. Then I’m revising my Victorian romance As Long As You’re Mine for submission and finishing up a Regency romance, To Woo A Wicked Widow.

Quick Questions:
Coffee of tea?
Tea. English or Irish Breakfast or Earl Grey.

Wine or beer?
Wine if I must.  I prefer a mixed drink.

Beach or mountains?
Beach

After a night of passion with her betrothed, Sir Geoffrey Longford, Lady Alyse de Courcy is eagerly looking forward to her wedding. But when Geoffrey is forced to marry another, a heartbroken and possibly pregnant Alyse finds herself in her own private hell. She must either gamble with her reputation or marry someone she does not love.

A reputed connoisseur of women, Thomas, Lord Braeton, has dallied with many ladies of King Edward’s court, although he has favored none. However, as Geoffrey’s best friend, Thomas has sworn to serve and protect Alyse, an oath now sorely tested when he agrees to marry her—in name only—to guard her reputation. Yet, as they grow closer, and Thomas discovers Alyse’s sweet but spirited nature, he comes to desire a marriage in truth. Can he overcome her memory of Geoffrey or is Thomas doomed to burn with passion for a woman he can never possess?

Author Bio:
Jenna Jaxon is a multi-published author of historical and contemporary romance. She is currently finishing revisions to her fifth full length novel, To Woo A Wicked Widow, set in Regency England and the first book in her five part series, The Widow’s Club.

Only Marriage Will Do, second book in her Georgian House of Pleasure series is with the editor. Her medieval trilogy, Time Enough to Love, is being published by Rising Phoenix Publications. Book 1, Betrothal is currently available. Book 2, Betrayal, will be available at the end of January.

Jenna has been reading and writing historical romance since she was a teenager. A romantic herself, she has always loved a dark side to the genre, a twist, suspense, a surprise. She tries to incorporate all of these elements into her own stories. She lives in Virginia with her family and a small menagerie of pets. When not reading or writing, she indulges her passion for the theatre, working with local theatres as a director. She often feels she is directing her characters on their own private stage.

She has equated her writing to an addiction to chocolate because once she starts she just can’t stop.

  1. I would return to Late victorian. They had electric refrigerators, and running hot water.

    1. You really can't underestimate running hot water, Liza. Quite a draw for the period. Of course you didn't bathe every day...details, details. :) Thanks for coming by!

  2. I would return to the old west. I love that women were able to vote in Missouri and could own businesses (mostly brothels but hey! they make money)

    1. I love the old west too. Brothel madam's and school marms were mostly the extent of women's jobs out there, but it was a means of independence. Thanks so much for stopping in, Melissa!

  3. A cabin in the woods sounds like the perfect place to write. Nothing but birdsong to disturb you. I hope you get to go there often, Jenna. :)

    1. Unfortunately only once a year, Trish. If I lived there year round I might be as prolific as you are! :) It does get a tad cold in the winter though. LOL Thanks so much for coming by!

    1. A very powerful woman and very strict. She set the moral code for society for the century. And she does seem to have been fascinating. Thank you for coming by, Angel.

    1. Thanks for coming by, Laurel. Medieval Scotland is an interesting choice. Pretty harsh conditions, but a lot of very colorful characters.

    1. Hi, Samantha. Yes, you only want to be in the middle ages if you were wealthy and even then it would be a struggle. So glad you stopped by!

  8. Thank you so much for hosting me, Julianne! Sorry I'm so late coming by but I had a book signing today and then my daughter stole my computer to do homeword and take a math test. I'm so happy to be here to kick off my Betrayal tour!

  9. I would probably pick the Roaring '20's... even with prohibition, they still knew how to party!

  10. Good interview! I like a lot of historical periods but I guess the period I would like to visit now would be the 1920's or the Regency . Thanks for the giveaway
